The mission of the MUSC Urban Farm is to build a healthier community by growing crops and social connections while educating and inspiring people with local, nutritious, and delicious food.
The farm provides a place where students, faculty, staff, patients and the Charleston community can come together to learn about the connection between food and health. The half-acre farm, located on the corner of Bee and President Streets, hosts a variety of events such as:
Workshops
Seminars
Volunteer workdays
Tours
Special events.
Participants are educated on the value of incorporating vegetables into their diets from planting seeds to preparing food in a healthy and sustainable way. The farm provides year-round demonstrations on accessible, preventative approaches to improve diet and positively impact health.
We host seasonal educational programs, both in person and from a digital format, on a range of topics – from organic gardening to healthy food and nutrition.
The creation of the MUSC Arboretum began in 2010 and Tree Campus USA designation was achieved in 2012. The farm is a popular component of this initiative. Visitors, students and staff are invited to experience, volunteer, and reap the benefits of the farm.
