The College of Medicine (COM) is home to the Medical University of South Carolina’s MD and Master of Public Health programs.

The MUSC College of Medicine’s dean office, and many of the college’s clinical departments, are based in the Clinical Sciences Building. Located on Jonathan Lucas Street, the Clinical Sciences Building is just north of the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. Education facilities, clinical and basic science departments, and research teams are located across the MUSC campus.
Founded in 1824, the MUSC College of Medicine was the first medical school in the southern United States. It was also the tenth medical school in the country. More than 9,000 medical degrees have been conferred by the college since its founding.
Today, the college provides excellence in clinical care and trains 740 medical students, 35 master of public health students, and nearly 850 residents and fellows. Moreover; the college hosts a robust basic, clinical and translational research enterprise. Additionally, more than $250 million in extramural research funding has been awarded in the last year. A national leader on many fronts, the college places strong emphasis on diversity and is recognized often for efforts on this front.
