The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and the Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion state-of-the-art design transforms how care is delivered to children and women in the Lowcountry and seamlessly integrates children’s care with obstetrical services. Our new facility transforms the skyline of Charleston and continues to change what’s possible for children and their families.
This state-of-the art facility expands patient care units and amenities built specifically for children and new mothers.
- 790 licensed beds across University Hospital, Ashley River Towner, and the Institute of Psychiatry (including 82 psychiatric beds and 23 for substance abuse)
- 250 bed hospital serving pediatrics and obstetrics
- The state’s largest and only Level 4 neonatal intensive care unit hosting over 80 licensed NICU beds with single patient rooms and couplet care rooms to support critical care of mothers and babies together
- 70 cancer and medical-surgical beds
- 57 PICU, cardiac intensive care unit, and step-down beds
- 17 Labor & Delivery, 36 mother/baby post-partum and mother-baby/ante-partum rooms, 2 dedicated obstetrical operating suites and 7 couplet care rooms
