The College of Medicine at the MUSC Clinical Science Building
Founded in 1824, the MUSC College of Medicine was the first medical school in the southern United States, and the tenth medical school in the country. More than 9,000 medical degrees have been conferred by the College of Medicine since its founding.
Today, the College is home to more than 1,400 faculty members committed to providing excellence in clinical care and in the training of 740 medical students, 35 master of public health students, and nearly 850 residents and fellows. The College is also home to a robust basic, clinical and translational research enterprise, with more than $250 million in extramural research funding awarded in the last year. A national leader on many fronts, the college places strong emphasis on diversity and has been recognized for efforts on this front.
