The MUSC College of Graduate Studies is located at 68 President Street, inside the Bioengineering Building, and across from the Institute of Psychiatry.
Established in 1965, the College of Graduate Studies educates highly sought-after biomedical and behavioral scientists at master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. Some 1,684 alumni employ advanced degrees as leaders in academe, government, and research. Nearly 500 graduate faculty teach and/or mentor over 200 students currently in one of at least 30 research areas.
We are committed to the graduate training of biomedical research scientists, providing them with the critical thinking skills and experimental expertise that prepare them to work at the interface of basic biological sciences and human health and disease. We believe that the single most important experience a university can offer is the opportunity to make exciting new discoveries through research.

Our mission is to educate a diverse community of scientists at the masters, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels and to foster the discovery of new knowledge in a premier academic environment.
Our goal is to provide our trainees with foundational and discipline-specific knowledge, as well as an immersion in research, through both curricular and experiential learning. We also aim to develop our trainees’ skills in critical thinking and effective communication, and to emphasize the importance of scientific rigor and the ethical pursuit of research.
